Ugh

So, my natural granola bars are enough to encourage weight loss on their own. I think I'll have to be truly starving to stick one of these in my mouth again.

Anyone know of a good, natural, not overly processed granola bar that doesn't taste like dirt? Or any other good snacky recommendations that don't involved partially hydrogenated oils or high fructose corn syrup?

I eat a lot of reduced fat triscuts. They have no HFCS or hydrogonated oils. The aren't all that low on the point scale, but they are healthy and chock full of fiber.

I've got some of those, although I get bored with them quickly. I'm actually not counting points right now, partially because I'm curious to see how just the removal of those two items that contribute so much to obesity will affect me, and partially because I can only manage one uptight set of diet rules at a time.

So you're just cutting out HFCS and hydrogonated oils? What about portion sizes and fast food?

But as for triscuits yeah, they are not exciting. I have just been eating those and black beans and sometimes salad or weight watchers frozen meals lately. After that crazy shrimp attack, I'm scared of food. And I am really afraid of eating out.

Fast food is almost 100% Partialy Hydrogenated, so it's out completely. (not saying there won't be an occasional fast food treat, but it won't be until I've been doing this for a month at least) Portion sizes seem to be taking care of themselves. I don't have a tendency to pig out on stuff I make myself, and I can't really afford to eat out otherwise, so it seems like it should be fine. Plus, my goal is for wholistic well-being as opposed to weight-loss. This change has actually been spurred on as an experiment in controlling my depression by cleaning up my diet.

Already got that covered, but it has to be brought to work with me on a daily basis. Looking for the sort of thing that can live in my desk drawer. Something crunchy and grainy, and preferably a little sweet. Salty is easy enough to find (see above), but that "I want a candy bar" replacement is the tricky thing.

You might try (if you like cereal) some of the brands that make granolas and things with sugar or fruit juice for flavoring. You can get some that don't have any sugar at all, I have discovered, much to my happiness.

What about trail mix?

Ooh. Cereal. That's a thought. I like my cereals, and they might be sweet enough to do the trick. (The cereal isle at Trader Joes kicks ass in that department, btw!)

I might have to give trail mix a try again. It's never really caught on with me, though.

There are some really tasty soy crisps that I love, but they are a wee bit pricy.

There's a refrigerator at work, so chilled things aren't a problem, I just can't leave things in the refrigerator on a day to day basis. Drawer snacks can take up residency and I don't have to worry about lugging them to and fro every day.

Might give some of those a try.

You don't appear to have [livejournal.com profile] sunday_drivers on your friends list (despite membership). There is a post there regarding Sunday.

Oh, oh, they sell that 100% fruit fruit leather at the co-op. It's cheap, sweet, and has no preservatives or HFCS.

I don't know what the various versions of Clif/Luna bars have in them, but we eat them a lot around here. (I recommend the peanut butter/chocolate chip Clif or peppermint Luna). There are also "Just (insert ingredient here" - tubs of freeze dried fruits and veggies that are super yummy. Pricey, though.
