So here's the game:

* On your current playlist, hit shuffle and pick the first twenty-five songs on the list (no matter how embarrassing)
* Write down a line of the song. Try to avoid putting the song title in the line.
* Have your friends comment and see if they know the songs (and artists)
* When someone guesses correctly, strike out the line and list the correct name of the song next to it.

This was originally 35, which I agree was too many, then it got cut to 20 which I thought was too few, so I added a few more. I filtered out some of the truly obscure works in my collection, since George Mears' college roommate never had much of a following outside of Clark Kerr Campus, and also cut some of the things from Kevin's collection that I've assimilated, but I don't really know very well. I also regret that I had to leave out The Kimberly Trip lyrics, citing that the Sacramento crowd had an unfair advantage.

Have fun, and oh yeah, Thou shalt not Google:

Yup, that's it. (Still a favorite of mine!)

Blind Melon may have covered it, but I don't know. It definitely predates them.

The Beatles, and I know every damned word of the song, but not the title, "Only sleeping"?

It's "I'm only Sleeping," but I'll give it to you.

#10 is a Negativland song from "Guns", but I don't remember the title of the track. >_<

#14 is Boy by Book of Love

#25 is really familiar... Argh. I may have to Google it just to ease my curiosity. I won't post it if I break down and Google, though...

Date: 2004-12-21 11:23 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] noodlboy.livejournal.com
Okay, I broke down and googled and STILL didn't find #25. I wonder if I am insane and have never actually heard it at all...

Date: 2004-12-22 12:48 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] mslulu.livejournal.com
#14 - exactly
#10 - I'll give it to you, since nobody's even dared to get that close on it. It's Guns Then.
#25 - Can't be Googled! (as you have since discovered.) Don't know if you're insane or not. The band didn't have too strong of a following outside of the SF Bay Area, however they had been known to tour with Depeche Mode.

My best "non-Google" guesses ...

8. He fought the evil robot king/And saved the human race again

Mr Roboto-Styx?

20. Black is for the nighttime/Preys upon the day/Red is for the blood that flows like rivers in our veins

Is that from "Les Mis"?

Well, had I been here a week ago, I would have had better luck, but I know #2 is "Still on Fire" by Aztec Camera.

Ooo, ooo, ooo! Now that I've read your hint, I know where I've heard #25 before. I can't remember what song it is, but it's definitely Voice Farm.
