Nina brought to work today a copy of Shel Silverstein's The Giving Tree. She and I were both disturbed by the lack of people in our office who have even heard of Silverstein. That just seems so wrong to me. As those of you who know me well know, I'm not big on poetry. I'm usually hard pressed to name a favorite poet or poem. But I grew up on Silverstein. I can't even begin to guess how many times I read Where the Sidewalk Ends cover to cover as a kid. Then I grew up and discovered that Silverstein was not strictly a children's author. There was much more of his twisted insight to explore. So, for the entertainment of all:

Hamlet as Told on the Streets
