Consumerist Weekend
Jan. 21st, 2008 12:40 pmIt was a pretty busy and sometimes stressful weekend, and much money was spent, but in the end, I think we were all happy.
bractune and I were planning to go rollerskating on Friday with
deliciousj and others, but we got the call while on our way to dinner that illness had taken over and
deliciousj wasn't going to make it after all. So we had dinner, and while waiting to hear back if anyone else was still going, we stopped in to nearest hellmouth, er, used car lot. See, Dave's beloved Honda has served him well for hundreds of thousands of miles, but lately, it's been suggesting that it might be ready to retire. So, just for fun, we thought we'd see what was out there. Well, okay, so there's nothing fun about setting foot on a car lot. The vultures swoop down the moment you arrive, they pretend they're your friend, luring you into a sense of false security, then they introduce you to their boss who refuses to let you leave no matter how many times you tell them "I don't see anything I'm interested here. I'm not going to buy tonight."
We escaped with our lives. Barely. And then to relax, we went to a movie. My sweetie gets lots of bonus points for sitting through the chick flick of the month with me. 27 Dresses. I liked it. (Please note that just because I like it doesn't mean I believe it is a "good" movie.)
Saturday, we felt like we were better prepared, so we ventured out to the Roseville auto mall to see what they had out there. Once again, we made the mistake of stepping onto a car lot. The Nissan Versa is an awesome car, and is decently priced. There was a test drive, but there was no decision made and no purchase made, despite the hard sell tactics of the Sales Manager. We fled, thinking we might go back after we'd seen a few other cars. It's a really cool car, after all.
We then decided to check out CarMax and see if it lived up to it's promises of no haggle, no pressure auto sales. It did. I had such a great time. Our salesman was David (whose wife's name is Terri... freaky) and he produced a small handful of cars in Dave's price range, that met Dave's requirements. We test drove 4 of them, and realized that with one of them, there was a deal staring at us that was too good to pass up.
So, we said goodbye to the Civic and drove off the lot in the Cruiser.
Sunday was my day to spend money. I've been needing a new duvet and pillows and linens, so it was off to IKEA. Part of the fun of IKEA is just getting ideas. In addition to the desired bed linens that we went in for, I think we came up a cool ideas for the dining room cabinets at Dave's place, and one other neat idea which I've forgotten, but hopefully he hasn't. Lunch for me consisted of Swedish Meatball happiness. And there were cinnamon rolls.
Sunday afternoon brought naptime with the kitties, followed by Sunday evening band practice and a late dinner. Looking forward to the TKT show this Saturday... it should be totally awesome!
