Music music music

Well, I aced my piano performance final today. I made a few small mistakes -- a missed note on one song, a sloppy chord change on another -- but overall, it felt pretty good. Until I sat down.

See, Rachel had us perform alphabetically. That meant I was first. I got up there. I played. I played fairly well. I heard the murmurs as I paused between my songs. I knew what was coming even before I walked away from the piano and heard Rachel say "If you play like that, you will get an A. The rhythm and tempo were all perfect."

Then I sat and listened to everyone else play. Few people even managed to play all three of their pieces. Those that did restarted many times, stopped in the middle of songs, hit mostly the wrong notes. It wasn't until the Russian girl, who played last and didn't even know what the pieces were but sightread them almost perfectly, before there was anyone else whose performance was comparable.

I felt kinda bad, like I had cheated. I know I started the class with a good deal of knowledge about the instrument, but I'm still certain that I needed this basic intro class to get back into the swing of it, to get the theory study that I never grasped as a kid.

But I felt like I was showing off.

Much to do

I'm developing a to do list for tomorrow, but I'm not liking it:

1. Early morning trip to the Laundromat. The dryer in my building is broken. Most of my laundry I'm okay hanging to dry, but there are maybe two loads that I really need to put in the dryer.
2. Kline Music. Want to buy some easy sheet music. With chords noted for my guitarist friends who want to play along.
3. A little shopping. Don't know if I can afford much for Christmas, but I'd like to get something for my niece and sisters at least. And I'd like to get the other classic Christmas TV specials DVD to go with the one I already have.
4. Clean house. Living Room, Kitchen, Bathrooms, Bedroom. This includes dragging the damned vacuum up and down the stairs.
5. tiggrrl and I had tentatively mentioned being social together tomorrow. Should find out if that's still a possibility.

I wanna do something fun tomorrow. Like a movie, or lunch, or adventure. Phooey.
