Apr. 26th, 2004 08:36 amAh, Monday morning. It's the time of the week when you drag your sleepy bum out of bed, rummage groggily through the closet for something that is clean and fits and will cover your body and hope it doesn't clash too badly, then fight the throngs of moronic motorists whose only purpose in life is to make yours hell while driving to work. And of course, once you're at work, that's when all the fun begins.
Or at least, that's the theory. If you're me, you get to work to find that the crucial website that you need to start the day is down and you can't do a damn thing. And so, I take some time to write a weekend update.
While technically, weekends don't start until Friday evening, Thursday night's activities kicked off my weekend with a bang. The Kimberly Trip's CD release show was awesome. Great music, new CD to saturate my brain with, and I still got to bed at a decent hour.
Friday,
vivalabonita and I went to see
thunderlord in The Laramie Project at The River Stage. This amazing show is a dramatic documentary about the murder of Matthew Shepard. It's a wonderful play with a wonderful cast. It runs through May 23rd, so if you can find the time, I highly recommend that you fit this into your schedule.
Saturday morning, I woke early and put on my professional digs and headed out to El Dorado Hills for a Job Fair and Interview with Blue Shield. There are about 100 jobs available, and about 300 applicants. I hate interviews, but I think I did okay, and I think that having healthplan experience from working at NIA will also help my case. This would be a really good opportunity if I get it.
After the job fair, I came home and set to work on my Computer Science final project. This involved doing a lot of photoshop work. I spent most of the rest of the day working on the graphics, between taking the occasional TV break, and watching Kevin on his webcam getting ready for the costume party he was going to (translation: watching half-naked man sewing). He cut most of his hair off, and he's not sure about it, but I think it looks really good.
Sunday morning brought the first bike ride of the season. I woke around 8:30, got dressed, then dragged my bike inside to clean it up. I also experimented with cooking breakfast and discovered that I can, indeed, successfully poach an egg.
lograh arrived around 9:30 and helped me oil the gears on my bike, then I filled the tires,
duncan_blkthrne arrived, and we were off! We rode about 20 miles. Our actual riding time was 2 hours, but that doesn't count the stop for Jamba Juice. It was a good trek for my first time out in over a year. I didn't even feel too wiped out afterward. My knees are griping at me a bit, but it's nothing major. Of course, I then spent the rest of the day eating everything I could find in the house, so the whole concept of losing weight through diet and exercise was kind of blown.
In the evening, I caught up with Kevin online again and we had a very good, long conversation before bed. I'm very much looking forward to my next trip down there in a few weeks.
Argh! WebMD is still down. I hate when this happens. Pah, guess I'll figure out my bills now. I'll probably be back, looking for silly memes in a bit.
And of course, Happy Birthday,
darkmoon!
