mslulu: (Demon Head)
The results of our first* group Karaoke outing are in and it seems to have been a unanimous success. I wanted to write about it last night before I crashed and lost most of the momentum, but well, I crashed, so let's just hope I can properly reconstruct the events.

We arrived early. So early, in fact, that they hadn't even finished setting up the gear. This was good though, as it gave us a chance to monopolize four songbooks and figure out what we were all going to sing before many people arrived. [livejournal.com profile] duncan_blkthrne started off the evening with one of his standards, a tune that has led to a rather undesired nickname in other circles which I will refrain from repeating here. My first selection, Like a Virgin went pretty well. I also did the Sheryl Crow version of Sweet Child of Mine. These, however, are the only ones from my line up last night that I'll ever repeat, and the second only if I can spend a little time listening to that version to learn it better. Everyone sang great. Some of the memorable moments include [livejournal.com profile] thunderlord's Bob Dylan tribute, [livejournal.com profile] khanfused's show stopping performance of We Didn't Start the Fire (Khan, whoever that crazed, uninhibited soul was possessing your body last night, we'd love to see more of him), and finally [livejournal.com profile] mahdi's surprise serenade of "Music of the Night." I haven't seen a look of such dazed adoration on [livejournal.com profile] elisandra's face since the Ghost of the Robot concert. Not that I'm in any way comparing [livejournal.com profile] mahdi's voice to that of James Marsters, because, well, there is no comparison. [livejournal.com profile] mahdi, whatever that insecurity, self-esteem problems, or whatzit it is that's keeping you from singing, get over it. You've got a beautiful voice that's a pleasure to hear.

Meanwhile, the dance floor was rocking. Sadly, there were no cameras available to get blackmail pictures of our favorite Republican all decked out in my punk swag, dancing her heart out at the gay bar with women of questionable sexual orientation. Oh, how our [livejournal.com profile] ktbee has grown up! And, in another surprise, I dare say I saw the [livejournal.com profile] mahdi out there actually dancing for a moment or two with his love!

As the evening wore down, [livejournal.com profile] elisandra began to feel a little wibbly, so she and [livejournal.com profile] mahdi departed. Not long after, the rest of us were feeling a little hungry (with the exception of [livejournal.com profile] ktbee, who I doubt was feeling much of anything other than euphoria at that point) so we staggered down the street to Pieces for greasy snackage, then back to home base where all then went on their merry ways toward home.

Soundbyte:

[livejournal.com profile] ktbee: (watching [livejournal.com profile] mslulu carefully sawing on her pizza with a knife and fork) You're being very neat.
[livejournal.com profile] mslulu: That's because I don't want to eat my plate, like you did.
[livejournal.com profile] ktbee: Well isn't that the cat calling the pottle black!

And so my weekend has begun. I'm off to Penryn in an hour or so to decide if I'm scared of the Asatru Folk Assembly or not. Then The Kimberly Trip show tonight at the Fox & Goose. Then hanging out tomorrow with [livejournal.com profile] vivalabonita while the Star Wars game gets blessedly closer to ending.

How is it that I either end up with absolutely nothing to do on a weekend, or so much to do that I need an extra two days to recover. Is there no such thing as a happy medium?

Happy Spring, Everyone!

*As everyone said at some point that we really need to do this more often, there will be a second outing before too many moons pass.

Home from the Asatru gathering. Thoughts on that later.

Now, nap until The Kimberly Trip
