Scenes from a voice class
Nov. 14th, 2003 09:49 amSubstitute Teacher: Okay, does anyone need to go over "Greensleeves" in the high range.
Brian: Yeah.
Kristina: Yay! Brian's gonna do the hooker song!
Meanwhile, my throat is killing me. The long term effects of that damned cold/flu are still lingering. Surprisingly enough, my low range notes haven't gotten any lower (usually when I'm sick is the only time I can sing "I Dreamed a Dream" from Les Miz), but I'm worried that my high range is still going to be hurting by next week when I have to perform. I was preparing "Danny Boy," but I think I'm going to work on "Farewell Lad" as a back up. It has a much smaller range.
We got the music for our final last night. She handed out low, medium and high ranges. Most people went for the low or medium. Only three of us took the high. Then, after she played and sang each version, one of the high people traded down, so now it's just me and Brian doing the high. It's going to be fun to really play with my soprano for once. The songs I've done previously have ventured into my high range, but only briefly. This one goes up there and stays there. The top note is a G, which is what sent Kari running back to medium. Said Brian, "I own that G." Said Terri, "Hell, I'm sleeping with that G." This is gonna be fun! Wish I liked the song better.
