Most definitely not "Live" Journal

Okay, this is an experiment in journaling. I've never been able to keep a pen & paper journal before, but since my net access is none to less-than-none while I'm here at the academy, I'll have to manage it the old fashioned way... at least until the weekend when I can type it all up and post it. This is one of those things a PDA or a Laptop would be good for, isn't it?
Anyway, my roommates seem to be okay. Neither of them are people I would probably ever associate with outside of this dorm/academy setting, but they seem relatively easy going.
Yesterday was a long dull hell. Eight hours of orientation classes. I think I joined a union. Today was a little more of that, but actually included a few real classes - Professionalism & Ethics, and CYA Mission & Values. Tomorrow, I have Computer Usage (which seems really stupidly basic, but since I'm Mac deficient, I'm sure I'll pick up something I don't know) and Facility forms. I don't think any interesting stuff will start until next week.
My roomies and I are actually anticipating the arrival of our uniforms. They're ugly, green and military, but they have one thing our dress slacks don't: pockets. Lots and lots of pockets in which to carry keys, cash, pens, and anything else we might be needing during breaks, since we can only go to our rooms during lunch and after classes, and purse, bags, etc. are frowned upon.
I'm thinking I might call on one of my family's old friends while I'm in town. I'm kinda chicken though. Haven't seen her in years.
I might even get to watch Buffy tonight. There's actually a TV in my room, and tonight, Nila is at home with her kids, and Virginia has a group meeting and will probably stay downstairs in the lounge to watch the World Series with everyone else.
Okay. That's all for now. Send me Text Messages!!!! I'm lonely. Oh, and I can be reached on my cell phone usually after 5:30.
7:45 p.m.
Oy. Our missing 4th roommate just arrived. Not sure about her. Older woman. Seems neurotic. Crud. Th three of us were happy this way. Change sux.
8:35 p.m.
I miss my kitties.
Thursday 10/24/02
1:28 p.m.
4 hours of Sexual Harassment. Well, okay, Sexual Harassment Prevention class, but it sounds more interesting the other way.
Had my first physical conditioning session today. Mostly aerobics. A good workout in general. The 5:30 a.m. classes aren't all required, which is nice, but it's encouraged to attend even the optional ones.
First tests are tomorrow. I'm pretty relaxed. None of them seem to be very challenging yet, but I'm sure they'll get tougher. Of course, I thought that about college, too, and it never happened. My roommate Virginia has already labeled me a "brain." For the first time in my life, I didn't respond as if this was a bad thing. My strongest asset for getting me through this academy is my mind and I'm not going to deny it or be ashamed of being smart. (Please note that this assetation of intelligence in no way suggests that I don't do anything downright stupid during the normal course of my daily life.)
