Ordinary Mothers

Question: Which is the more appropriate response for a mother to give her child upon being told, "Mommy, I want to be in the circus!"

A) "You do? That's nice. What do you want to do in the circus?"
B) "No you don't, honey. Those people aren't... normal."

A, definately.

My question is, who wants a mom that is ordinary or appropriate?

Probably someone who doesn't cringe at the words "Oh, Honey," because she knows the next words that follow will be something derogatory about her ideas, beliefs, or appearance.

Sorry...

I promise to keep my flippant comments to myself in the future. No, really, I do...

Whoops

That might have been a little more snappish a reply than I intended. Answer B, however, was my mother's actual response to my older sister when presented with the Circus question. Just another little illustration of our dysfunctional relationship with her. Chryste and I shared a rather incredulous laugh over the memory this morning. I thought it amusing enough to post.

That's okay. I had my fingers crossed anyway...

It would be: "No sweetie, you can't join the circus. They abuse animals there - didn't I give you the pictures and make you cry before?"

Oh wait...that would be my kid. :)

Good thing you're not having kids. Not that they shouldn't be taught the things you'd teach them, but I could easily see them being held after school in kindergarten for setting the class hamster free!

Damn right ;)
