b: a British theatrical entertainment of the Christmas season based on a nursery tale and featuring topical songs, tableaux, and dances

I'm currently reading Noel Streatfield's Theatre Shoes. Having had definition "a" taught to me all my life, I keep finding myself confused when characters in the book are learning songs for a pantomime. I knew there was a translation issue there when I used to watch the British (translate as "good") version of Whose Line is it Anyway? but I never felt the need to actually investigate the issue until now.

On a related issue, I really need to get ahold of my own copies of Ballet Shoes and Circus Shoes. I loved them as a kid. Now, reading Streatfield's other work as an adult, I'm sure I'll still love them. Only problem is that getting a copy of Circus Shoes can be a bitch.
